Michelle Sinning and I became acquainted five or six years ago when I did some web development work for the an Orange County, California public relations firm where she was employed. Now at the helm of Sinning Communications, Michelle  selected and setup a beautiful WordPress theme on her own. When she reached the point where she needed more customization than the theme interface would allow, she contacted me to add CSS customization.

Michelle’s public relations background provided her with a lot more website knowledge than most people have. In spite of that, here’s what she has to say about developing a WordPress site on your own.

My “little” WordPress experiment gave me the following insight: Just because you CAN build a website on your own, doesn’t mean you SHOULD. Even the best WordPress templates take a lot of work to figure out, and the majority will require a fair amount of custom CSS coding to get the kinks worked out. If you are an established business, you will definitely want professional direction and customization to properly represent your brand.
